Freakin' Chemistry in Action!!!

Question 1:
1a: double replacement
1b: synthesis
2 and 3: I think they might be some form of double replacement. I'm not sure though.

Question 2:
a. Hypoxia is when DO levels in an aquatic environment decrease so much that it becomes hurtful towards organisms living in the body of water.

b. Hypoxia reaches its highest levels in late summer in Long Island Sound. In the Gulf of Mexico it reaches its highest levels in mid summer while in some places in the gulf it can be year round.

c. The causes of hypoxia are increased nutrients in the water, eutrophication, decay of biomass on the bottom of the body of  the body of water, and oxygen depletion from stratification.

d. High levels of nitrate ions are caused by fertilizers, manure, animal feedlots, municipal wastewater, sludge, septic systems, legumes, bacteria, and lightning.

e. Safe levels are 10 mg of nitrate per liter of water. Excess amounts of nitrates in the body can lead to methemoglobinemia, a blood disorder that prevents oxygen from being delivered throughout the body.
